Scripture:
Ephesians 6:11-16 (KJV)
Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.

"Being a child of God, I often feel pressured to say that I have peace even if I do not feel at peace. Like, how does it look for the light of the world, the salt of the sea to be walking around peace-less? "--Anonymous

It seems ironic and almost oxymoronic to consider peace in the midst of a call to arms/battle cry of war. Everyday is a gift, yes. However, everyday we are also in some kind of battle. Whether it be a battle of the mind, a battle of will, or a battle of personalities, every day, as soon as our alarm clock rings, it's on.
In my former life, my pre-Christ life, at the sound of my alarm, I dropped whatever four letter expletive came to mind. I was good at cursing.... unbeknownst to me, I was effectually cursing my day and cursing myself in these moments. My cold feet frustratingly thrashed towards my clock; no time for fuzzy slippers or sandals of peace.
According to Ephesians 6:15, we must put on these sandals of peace. This lets us know that we are not inherently peaceful and we won't simply have peace in our lives. There is a choice that we have to make everyday to get dressed in the full armor of Jesus Christ. As a good soldier, we must choose to put on our armor and be fully dressed for the battle. We must choose peace.

TASK OF THE DAY 10:
We sometimes lack peace because we do not pursue peace. We do not wear peace. We do not make peace with all men in the way in which we have been instructed.
For today's task, dust off those sandals, repair them if necessary...Be a peace maker. Be a peace keeper. Greet people in peace. Speak with peace in your heart. Think on peace. Wear a countenance of peace. Act in peace.... and you will BE IN PEACE.
Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God. Matthew 5:9 (KJV)
Great peace have they which love thy law: and nothing shall offend them. Psalm 119:165 (KJV)
You won't even have to wait in line, pay a few hundred dollars or worry about scuff marks....

Biblical Greetings of Peace:
- John 20:21 (KJV) Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you.
- Romans 1:7 (KJV) To all that be in Rome, beloved of God, called to be saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ.
- Ephesians 2:1 (KJV) Grace be to you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.
- Philippians 1:2 (KJV) Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.
I read some of this last night and then meditated on it this morning and it is powerful. As a child of God, I don't usually feel pressured but actually feel like most of the time I do have peace...until 2 days ago. I'm not a person who tends to worry or get stressed out. God has been taking care of me and even if not directly, but indirectly through my family and loved ones. But I was struggling with a certain situation like why has it not come to pass? It's a reoccurring thing that has never caused any significant stress in my life. But because it has not happened yet, I broke down and cried this morning. Not fully understanding why I was crying because I thought I was trusting in God. I began to feel overwhelmed, started thinking the worse and the effects that could happen in my life, thus allowing these thoughts to disrupt my PEACE. So...I got down on my knees and prayed. Then I started thinking about the word I was meditating on yesterday in Psalms 139 (one of my favorite) particularly verses 13-17. God knows the innermost parts of me. He is the Owner, the Indwelling Possessor of me. There are no helpless or hopeless situations under His control and guardianship. How precious are His thoughts of me! So I thought how fortunate I am and how in my darkest moments, in the lowest parts of the earth, in my weakness, God is my strength and He has given PEACE. So I decided there that I would CHOOSE to have peace. Always thought it was given, but when I declared I would have peace this morning, a sense of tranquility came upon me. I praised and worshipped. I stopped crying and smiled. God is soo good and punctual. This is exactly what I needed!! Got my Peace Jordans on today and feeling blessed. Thank you!!
ReplyDeleteSister Erlande,
ReplyDeletePeace be unto you my Sister! Wow! Your testimony is ministering to me! *looks for my peace Jordans*.. I'm trying to establish and lace mine up before I even start my day today!
You bring out a very powerful point that I'm not sure was mentioned in the blog post. GOD HAS GIVEN US PEACE... and more importantly... HE IS OUR PEACE.
So we can be sure that in moments when it feels like our peace Jordans may be loosening up, we can do a quick enemy check..and a quick wardrobe check. Have we put on peace? Have we put on Christ? Or has our enemy attempted to distract us before we could even be fully dressed?
You were able to re-establish your peace because you went to the feet of the King! When you choose to pray and remember the Word, ways, promises, and track record of God, you were effectually putting on an important part of your soldier's armor! You started praying, believing, and knowing.... and our enemy had to scram!
I love this. I'm going to meditate further on this. Your testimony has unearthed a deeper level to this *peace* thing that I had not considered before. Thank you for sharing.
I pray blessings into your life! Peace be multiplied!
