Task of the Day

T.O.D.
Task of the Day--- A daily inspiration and spiritual call to action.

The Challenge:

Creatively enrich your/my/our spiritual growth and personal relationship with Jesus Christ while utilizing this forum to regularly hold each other accountable and lift each other up!

How it Works:

Following prayer and consultation with the Lord, I will post a task every day. Each task will correspond to a Word from God/scripture. At each day's end, you are invited to post the results of the task in action including artifacts from the journey. I imagine that some days will feel more successful than others. Additionally/realistically, "daily" may end up being "weekly" during certain seasons.

The Goals:

The overall goal is to deliberately carve out the time and put work into each day to become better lovers. Let us love ourselves better, love strangers, friends, enemies and family better. Let us love God better. Did you know that of all the richness that is God's Holy Scriptures, the two greatest commandments are to love God and to love people?! (Matthew 22:36-40) Basically, love is a big deal and we want to get better at it and walk in it.

Each T.O.D. is meant to focus on a bite-sized, actionable step to help us recognize what love looks like on a day to day basis so that we may recreate it and dwell in it... and it in us.

Let us welcome God into our lives and allow ourselves to be perfected.

The Invitation:

You are invited to join me in each T.O.D. and I encourage you to post your results as well. Although tasks are designed as "daily bread", definitely wrap them into a week, month, year, until they are engrained into your daily members. There is only one rule. You must be honest and transparent about your struggles and successes! Testify! Please invite others to join us on this fantastic voyage!

Be Blessed!

Christ on the Proverbial Shelf

Scripture:
1 John 1:5-7 This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

Inspiration:
If we never announce it, would people be able to tell who and what we stand for? Attire aside, when strangers see us, watch us from a distance, hear us speak, or ask us for our help, what else do they see and hear? In the quiet moments when no one is watching, in the louder moments when we are frustrated or annoyed, when we are fed up and exasperated, do we resemble children of light or children of darkness? When we have made a mistake, are less than perfect, in a hurry or in the wrong, is it still evident that we are in fellowship with God? Are we quick to glorify our old selves, reminding offenders, "You better be glad that I'm saved!” Do we occasionally put holiness on the proverbial shelf when times get especially trying? When that certain thorn in the flesh pushes all the right buttons to knock us off spiritual sobriety, is it clear whom we serve in these moments?

Task of the Day: For today's T.O.D., "choose you this day whom you will serve". Make no space for gray areas.* If you have decided to be a Christian and thereby a son of God, then walk and live accordingly...Whether others are watching or not. It's actually impossible to do this without God's help so ask Him to help you to love and serve Him more thoroughly. Identify areas of your life that don't resemble Light and Christ and clean house!
